Day of Caring
September 15, 2011
United Way of Kootenai County’s corporate partners mobilized
in full force!

“The
United Way Day of Caring is more emotionally moving than I ever expected.
You are surrounded by over 300 people, most of whom you do not know, and
collectively you are giving of yourself, your time and your resources, to
benefit others in need. You truly get more out of this day personally
over any amount of physical work you put into it!” Said Britt Towery, Coeur
d’Alene Mines
Towery
and her team from Coeur d’Alene Mines cleaned and organized at the Post Falls
Senior Center and stained a playhouse for Mountain States Early Head Start.
They were one of 20 local businesses and community groups that participated in
the Day of Caring on September 15. In one day close to 350 volunteers shared
their time and talents and completed 26 much needed projects for local
nonprofits. Projects that were completed included: splitting and
delivering wood to low-income seniors, landscaping at the Spirit Lake Food
Bank, landscaping and minor repairs at the Dirne Community Health Center, Work
Day at the Post Falls Senior Center and Thrift Store, painting at the Idaho
Youth Ranch, and much more!
Volunteers from the Day of Caring were able to help
our local nonprofits complete projects that they could not have completed
alone. Today, nonprofits are faced with making limited resources stretch
further and further and that is why volunteers are so vital to the
sustainability of nonprofits. Together, as a community through events like the
Day of Caring everyone can help make a difference by volunteering.
“We
can't thank you enough for choosing the Hayden Senior Center as a partner of
the United Way's Day of Caring. We were thrilled to have our facility
completely transformed by the new paint. We so appreciate the volunteers
from Mountain West Bank as they descended upon us early in the morning, so
eager to start and continued in great numbers throughout the day. This
place was painted floor to ceiling, vacuumed, cleaned up and largely put
back together all within about seven hours! Whew!” Said Jason Ball, Hayden Senior Center
The Day of Caring
engages community businesses and groups in volunteerism through one-time
volunteer opportunities that help strengthen our local nonprofits and
cities. If you would like to participate next year email volunteer@kootenaiunitedway.org
